…got engaged this weekend in Adams, Massachusetts.
After dating four years, I felt it was time, don’t ask me why, you just “know,” right?
We took a train to Albany, rented a car, and drove to North Adams, MA. We stayed at The Porches Inn, which we both loved and highly recommend. We started hiking up Mt. Greylock at 7am on Saturday morning and as we hiked further up the mountain, the more it began to snow and the more we found ourselves trying to hike up ice. We finally got to the top and Murphy was no longer having fun, in fact, she hated it. It was extremely windy, cold, everything was locked up, and no one was around. I’m not going to lie, it was scary. It felt like the start of one of those stories, where a couple gets lost in the woods and is found frozen in the spring…not very romantic at all. Well, not the kind of romantic I was hoping to achieve.
The further we got down the mountain, the more snow turned to rain, and ice turned to mud. I had been planning to propose to Murphy at the top, but there was no way that was happening, so the whole way down I was having to rethink my plan ; Do I wait? Should I just do it now? Should I ask by the car? No, thats lame. Will she be upset since she’s cold and wet? What am I going to do?? So I decided to let her guide my plan by asking her how she felt. I asked her, “Are you miserable?” She said, “No! I’m having fun again!” That was it. It’s go time. I’m not leaving this mountain without doing it. So, with one step left on the trail, I stopped Murphy and proposed. I may have even said something about climbing a mountain together is proof we were meant to be together. (Kind lame, I know, but you try and propose without saying something like that.) She freaked out!…and said yes.
As we headed home, I stopped at a liquor store and walked in and asked for the most expensive bottle of champagne. He pulled out a $12 bottle. (“you can get yourself a whole bunch of mums”) We got back to the hotel and realized we had no glasses.
The rest of the trip was full of phone calls, hot tubs, fancy food, bowling, wings, flirting, and visiting the Mass MoCA, which was amazzzzing.
Good trip. Right Murphy?

Congratulations again. Murphy is one lucky gal to have the rest of her life documented thru such beautiful images. I finally figured out why your images are so captivating & your blog is so interesting. You have a very poetic approach & thought process & it comes out in every picture. The shots from your engagement day tells the whole story so beautifully in so few photographs (great editing skill). Don’t mean to obsess about your pictures, but I’m really really inspired by them. Murphy emailed me today to get more details on what I’m thinking for my wedding. Hopefully, we can make this project happen!
